Active Learning Sessions

There is no better way to improve our well-being than to get outside and enjoy the beautiful natural environment while learning some new strategies and skills.

The Learn Leadership Active Learning Sessions are all about using our outdoor spaces as learning environments, combining physical activity with professional/personal development. There will be a mix of light exercise to more adventurous activities to suit individual levels of fitness and sense of adventure, including walking, hiking, kayaking, yoga, meditation, swimming, bike riding and other activities as suggested, requested or offered by our wonderful outdoor community. Sessions will be kept to small groups, with personalised and/or individual sessions on request, and will range from short sessions to full day activities.

These active learning sessions are great opportunities to take the time to learn some new skills, get outside for some exercise, share experiences, meet new people and with the extra bonus of a professional/personal development session well and truely outside the classroom!

Sunset and Moonlight Walk on the Many Peaks Track

Sunday 30 August 2020 – 4:00 – 9:00pm

This activity will be a lovely hike through the Pallarenda Conservation Park along the Many Peaks Track at sunset with the (almost) full moon rising. We will enjoy great views of the Townsville area, including Castle Hill, Town Common, and Magnetic Island. We will then be walking back in the moonlight along the wetlands track for a unique hiking experience using our headlamps and listening to the sounds of local bird and other wildlife. This hike is approximately 10kms return and has some steep sections but is quite manageable for most levels of fitness/adventure. If you are not sure this suits your fitness/adventure level, consider coming along to the ‘Castle Hill’ climb which will cover similar learning activities but through a shorter climb. If you are looking for a bit more of a challenge and adventure, have a look at the Full Moon on Fredrick Peak hike.

Full Moon on Fredrick Peak

Wednesday 2 September 2020 – 3:00 – 10:00pm

This activity will be a special one not to be missed! Watching the September full moon rise in the distance while we enjoy the 360 degree views over the local Townsville and surrounding area from the top of Fredrick Peak will be an unforgettable experience. We will take in the beautiful sunset during our climb and then stop at the top to watch the full moon rise from the opposite direction. A truely magnificent experience! We will then hike back down in the moonlight for a unique hiking experience using our headlamps. This hike is approximately 8 kms return and has some very steep and challenging sections. If you are not sure this suits your fitness/adventure level, consider coming along to the ‘Many Peaks’ or ‘Castle Hill’ Active Learning Sessions scheduled for the same week which will cover similar learning activities but through more gentle activities. I’ll again be working with Michael Pugh from Townsville Hike & Explore to develop a fun and engaging adventure. #tsvhikeandexplore

We will enjoy the great views of the Townsville area, including The Strand, Mount Stuart, Pallarenda and Magnetic Island. We will then be climbing back down in the moonlight for a unique hiking experience using our headlamps. This climb is approximately 5kms return and has some steep sections but is quite manageable for most levels of fitness.
